Guess Who

                                                                        Watercolors
                                                                            8" x 10"

Done for the DPW challenge
I am not good at doing portraits. So I was very happy to get the subject's  likeness in my initial sketch. But after I wet the WC paper, most of the pencil's marks disappeared. oops! And then I could see where I did wrong but the Antwerp blue color is so permanent that it was impossible to erase any mistakes. :-(

Hope you still like it. But try to guess whom I was trying to paint? :-)

Tenderness in Winterland

Watercolors
9" x 12" (23cm x31cm)
Arches 300lb (640g) CP WC paper.

I'm very busy and yet when I saw this Winter art challenge, I suddenly felt like rushing to paint the winter scene, appropriate for the season.
Thank you for all comments, very much appreciated.

The Lacemaker

                                                                                             watercolors
                                                                       on
9" X 9"  Arches CP 300lb WC paper

Done for the PADT challenge.

I have not painted humans for quite a while, so indeed it was a long process and quite a challenge to do a copy of Vermeer's The Lacemaker.

I made a mistake of using untested permanently staining  (bright yellow) color and as a result, I lost my "white" for highlight on her collar. Nonetheless, I'm quite satisfied in the end to have this lacemaker painting to call my own.

                                                     Watercolors on rough Arches paper
                                                                  15cm X 30cm

This is my interpretation of The silver goblet by French artist Jean-Baptiste Simeon Chardin. I almost "lost" the painting when clumsy me stood up, for a break, and spilled all the dirty water on the whole painting. Phew!

Done for the PADT art challenge.

                                                                      Watercolors

This is my interpretation of the beautiful challenge photo by Lee A Brown of ADNW.

I have not painted for so long, due to my passion du jour, ceramics. I felt a little rusty resuming painting, but I'm now pleased with the result. Hope you like it too.

Thank you for any comments.

Dragon Teapot

                                                               Ceramics
                                                                 8" X 11"
This is the year of The Dragon, according to the Chinese Calendar. Dragon and Turtle are the symbols of Power and Longevity, so I combined the two in the same design for Good Luck.

Bamboo Teapot

I have not been painting, for ceramics has been my current passion. This is a low fire ceramics teapot, totally hand built with the panda as the handle. Oh yes, I did the paintings on both sides, front and back. It could be a functional teapot, but I will never use it for fear of... ruining it.

Ceramics is so fun! I have also made many little knickknacks that I really like.

Thank you for any feedback. :thanks:

Spools of Thread

                                                          Watercolors on 6" X 6" canvas
Done from The Rookie Painter challenge photo.

This is my first experiment to paint watercolors on canvas. I bought this paste a year ago and I just now used it to prime my linen canvas. The surface made me feel that I was painting acrylics, although all paints are watercolors. The fun thing is if you make a mistake, you can just wipe it off and re paint again. I've made a lot of mistakes because I had to rush rush for the deadline. I've got no time to fix my mess, but I will do so in spare time, which I wonder when!!! I'm taking a ceramics class right now, at the local university. No, we are not making pots nor bowls. It is more like sculptural items and I just love it. It is so much fun.

Thank you for looking. Any comment is greatly appreciated.

Tomatoes, Big and Small

                                                         Acrylics on 12" X 12" canvas

This is my interpretation of the PADT beautiful challenge photo.
At first, I was intimidated by the sight of leaves. Yes, I have a fear of painting foliage. But I needed to make a painting to match my previous Stack of Bowls, so I decided to include just a few leaves. I'm happy with my painting and I hope you like it too.

All comments are very much appreciated, thank you!

Stack of Bowls

                                                              Acrylics on 12" X 12" canvas

As I plan to soon enroll in ceramics again, at the local University, I've tried to paint as much as time permits. Now if I could get in the class, maybe my paintings will stop for a while. We'll just see.

Here my work was done from The Rookie Painter challenge photo. This is the first time I ever painted strawberries and I'm quite pleased with them.
