Portrait Challenge

                                                                                                   Watercolors
                                                                                                     7" X 10"
I often stressed doing portraits. So in the past, I had refused doing portrait commissions. But this time, with calming words from Karin Jurick of Different Strokes from Different Folks , telling us to just relax and to treat the subject like shapes and colors, I felt less intimidated. And here is my attempt. I don't think I have achieved great likeness :-( but I hope the artist, whoever she is, will like my interpretation of her photo :-)

  2. Millie, I think you did a magnificent job on this challenge. I do not know who she is, but she sure is beautiful! I hope you no longer shy away from portraits because I think you have a magic touch with them! She is truly stunning!

  3. I'm still new in this blog thingy, I hope my response could be seen by all people who kindly leave me comments. Thank you Diana and AutumnLeaves for your encouraging words. I'm still awaiting the reaction of the artist herself. I just discovered who she is, just a few minutes ago. Like I have said, I do not think I've got her exact likeness, but I think I did get her mood somehow :-)

  5. Millie, you did capture the mood very nicely. I like all the colors you used in the shadows and how delicate your details are. I thought you might be a watercolorist by studying your photograph. I will be keeping track of what you do. I'm sure your future landscapes will be sensational.

  20. Hi Millie. Thanks for your sweet and gentle comment on my DSFDF challenge painting. You (and the other DSFDF-ers) are my standard for excellence for my art. If I can come close to your quality then I think that I'm improving. I look at your work and consistently say "WOW!". That's where I'd like to be - when I grow up! :-)

    Happy holidays from

  23. I think you did a fabulous job of catching the wistfulness, the look of that person. I too painted in Karin's challenge and what fun that was. I have a great idea that I'd love to talk to you about and am hoping you'll email me polsby@yahoo.com

  24. Millie, I don't understand why I did not leave a comment for your portrait, because I came several times and admire it;the colours, the texture of her clothes are admirable, and her expression...fantastic!
And thank you for dropping on my blog!
